Project establishment: “The effect of changes in Beijing’s social stratification on the building of harmonious cities”

Abstract: On 17th July 2017, at 2 pm on Monday, a seminar was conducted for the proposal project titled “The effect of the changes of Beijing’s social class structure on the construction of harmonious cities” in conference room 1610 in the Main Building. Sun Zhijun, Director of CCP committee at School of Economics and Business Management BNU, was invited to host the meeting. Xiao Long, Vice Head of Achievement Division at Beijing Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science, Sun Wenqiang, from Socialism with Chinese Characteristics Office at Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics Research Centre, Professor Xia Qingjie, from School of Economics at Peking University, Zhao Liwei, Researcher at Institute of Labor Science, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Professor Xing Chunbing, from School of Economics and Business Management BNU, Deng Quheng, Researcher at Institute of Economics at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Cai Wenlong, Assistant Researcher at Development Research Centre of the State Council, Shen Meng, Associate Professor at Capital University of Economics and Business, Pan Hua, Assistant Researcher at Academy of Macroeconomic Research. NDRC, Wan Haiyuan, Vice Director of CIID and Yang Yumei from CIID participated in the seminar.

Xiao Long, Vice Head of Achievement Division at Beijing Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science; Sun Wenqiang, from Socialism with Chinese Characteristics Office at Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics Research Centre; Professor Xia Qingjie, from School of Economics at Peking University; Zhao Liwei, Researcher at Institute of Labor Science, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security; Professor Xing Chunbing, from School of Economics and Business Management BNU; Deng Quheng, Researcher at Institute of Economics at Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Cai Wenlong, Assistant Researcher at Development Research Centre of the State Council; Shen Meng, Associate Professor at Capital University of Economics and Business; Pan Hua, Assistant Researcher at Academy of Macroeconomic Research. NDRC; Wan Haiyuan, Vice Director of CIID and Yang Yumei from CIID participated in the seminar.

 

First, Sun Zhijun introduced the participants in the seminar and Sun Wenqiang introduced Beijing Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics Research Centre and the prerequisite and advice on project establishment. Xiao Long showed his support and expectation to the project that the project group should be able to creative and present achievement at different stages. Project in-charge, Associate Professor Wan Haiyuan, introduced the general idea and previous literatures on the topic. He introduced 6 aspects of the project: macro background, research content, general framework, focus and difficulties, data introduction and research plan.

 

 

 

During the speech session, Professor Xia Qingjie mentioned the point of linking theoretical research with the public’s needs and suggested that the project could be studied in the political spectrum. Zhao Liwei suggested that a clear logic mind map should be well organised among all sub topics and more perspectives should be embraced into the research. Professor Xing Chunbing suggested that classes should be categorized with a more detailed standard and the research on the changing process should be more concrete. Deng Quheng suggested that Class Immobility could be a central theme while the other researches contribute more to policy making. Associate Professor Shen Meng raised up the point that there would be a problem with self-estimated stratification. Pan Hua mentioned that the temple element should be clarify in the stratification standard. In the end, Director Sun concluded with a few words. He wished that the project group could have a well grab and understanding on the ideology and learn from the feedbacks. Project in-charge, Associate Professor Wan Haiyuan said that he would think more about the lessons and feedbacks that they received during the seminar and produce better result in the future.
